This starts out great, dips in the middle, and ends up as a bit of a shambolic, self-pitying and pretty unbelievable mess. It's not hard to believe that this sort of thing happens (seemingly happily married woman leaves husband and kids to move in with a guy half her age) but it's just difficult to believe that the main character (Alicia) would have let things go on for so long and to such an extreme! This isn't one of Matthews' best books, although it's easy to read and fairly straight forward to follow. The characters weren't really that endearing and I personally started to lose interest with the 'all the kids (even the four year old!) smoking pot' storyline!

I am a big fan of Carole Matthews and have read most of her books, but I was very disappointed with this one. The main character was unlikable and her small child came out with comments which were not in line with his age. It seemed a little `made up as it went along'.
I didn't end up reading the whole book and skipped a third of it to read the last chapter, something I never do, still giving me no incentive to go back and finish what I had missed.
I would not recommend this book. If you have never read a Carole Matthews book before, please do not choose this one, it may put you off, but I would highly recommend one of her other novels, The Chocolate Lovers Club, Chocolate Lovers Diet, The difference a day makes, All you need is love, and It's never too late.
Avoid this one, you will be disappointed.

It's a long time since a book made me laugh out loud - and this one did. The lines that are given to the youngest child are hysterical. Coupled with the bittersweet romance, the struggling marriage and the twist in the tale at the end, this is a book that I couldn't put down.

I'm sure everyone, however happily married, can see how this can happen to Ali. I enjoyed this book but not as much as other titles by Carole Matthews.

This book was okay to start with, but not the best Carole Matthews book I've read. But as I eventually got into it, the story got better. I didn't feel for the character Ali at all for a long time. But looking back over the book now, it was a good read.
