I have read a few books written for beginners in Forex. I find this approach to be objective in it's portrayal of what Forex is about. The Good the Bad and the Ugly are all here. The responsibility of making a profit is laid squarly on the shoulders of the reader and not hidden behind a "feel good" veil of optimistic b.s. After reading this book I had a better idea of what it takes to profit in Forex and how much more work I have to do to become familiar enough with the tools of the trade to build an income.
This book did what I wanted it to do, which was to give me an introduction to the tools and methods that can be used to buy and sell shares with a reasonable chance of success. I haven't actually made any money yet, but I feel equipped to analyse shares from a more informed perspective. My only criticism is that the author has an occasional tendency to be rather patronising whenever a 'complicated' new word or concept is introduced (maybe a nod to the 'dummies' in the title), but this is a minor issue, and it is generally a good introduction.
COMPLAIN
I am very disappointed because I never got the book I bought, hence it's just not possible for me to give any suitable Review of the book. So I am yet to re-order another replacement of the same type.
Although a few years old (and American) this book is still more than beneficial to the UK trader (beginner or otherwise); and costing less than the average dealer fee for a trade - hardly expensive.
Plenty of very good information in it, no magic formulas or false promises, just a good insight into technical analysis - what it is, why you should use it and the commonly used techniques.
I'd already been using a bit of TA, but this made it clearer, explained it and gave better understanding of how to use it - trends, momentum, understanding market sentiment etc... well worth the money and easy to read as well (although take your time with it, there is plenty of information to absorb)
If you're new to trading, i'd recommend some other books first (Naked Trader 2nd ed by Robbie Burns for example), then use this to add on as technical analysis is about human nature: when to buy, not what or how to buy.... also a bit of economic research helps (The little book of bull moves in a bear market by Peter Schiff is very informative, yet understandable).
Overall, I give 4*, it's certainly helping me improve - and you've got to be constantly improving (remember to make money, someone has to be losing it!). It doesn't quite get 5* as there are a couple of things I'd like to have seen (elliot waves for example).
If you have never traded or have little experience then this book will feel slightly heavy reading at times. It does give some good examples and tips but is mostly based on the Dow and the North American stock market and non from any of the other countries. On the plus side it will teach you some new techniques on how to analyze (Am.) a particular security but as it mentions, technical analysis used in this book should not be taken as an exact science but more so as a guide.
